Astrological Forecast May 2010

Horoscopes prepared by Phoebe Forsythe, Astro-Sphere

TAURUS ~ April 21st to May 20th

After last month’s rather leisurely ending, Taureans can expect the pace to once again quicken as Mercury, currently retrograde in your sign, changes direction on the 12th. You should notice an increase in mental alertness as well as experience more contact with others – expect your mailbox to once again fill and for the telephone to start ringing. The New Moon in Taurus on the 14th signals the start of a new emotional and physical cycle, so if you find yourself letting go of psychological baggage or clearing out closets around now, you can tot it up to more than just that start of spring. Starting a new health or exercise regimen now could translate into some very positive outcomes by this time next year, so get out your trainers and put away the sweets!

Your ruler, Venus, enters home-loving and nurturing Cancer on the 20th, a day before the Sun leaves your sign.  Cooking for friends, or writing about food are two ways that this combination is likely to manifest over the course of the coming month. Before then, key contacts involving the Sun and Mercury in your sign could result in some major attitude or direction changes with regard to domestic and career priorities, starting with a Mercury-Pluto trine on the 3rd. The Sun-Mars square on the 4th could see the return of family or real estate problems - issues which you first encountered early last month.  Fortunately, help is at hand – a Venus-Mars sextile on the 7th will help dialogue to flow and solutions to appear, whilst a Sun-Jupiter sextile on the 18th could see a friend or internet ad present you with some interesting work prospects. Although these offers will seem heaven-sent, be sure to ask a lot of questions and thrash out the details before you agree to anything, or else expect to face some teething problems or resistance from authority figures around the 19th, 23rd and 24th. However things should begin to fall into place after the 30th when Saturn stations and your creative juices start to flow again.

Neptune turns retrograde on the 31st in your career and fame sector – which could increase the chance of slip-ups, oversights or confusion, so be on your guard. The Full Moon in Sagittarius on the 27th could coincide with a loan finally come through or see you drawing the line under a joint finance, tax or inheritance matter.

GEMINI ~ May 21st to June 21st

May signals the start of birthday month for Gemini’s, so expect to feel quite perky now, especially after the 12th when Mercury resumes forward motion and the pace of life begins to pick up. Venus, which has been touring your sign since late April, continues to provide opportunities for socialising and possibly even a little romance, especially on the 7th when Venus and Mars meet in a flirtatious sextile. Venus will remain in Gemini until the 19th, after which you may notice a shift in your priorities towards career and money as she ingresses into Cancer. With your ruler still in security-oriented Taurus for another month, you would be wise to use the second half of May to consolidate your financial position and make sound career plans for the coming year. Your birthday month officially gets underway on the 21st when the Sun enters Gemini, ushering in a period of optimism, self-confidence, as well as plenty of attention. On the 28th, Uranus changes signs after seven years in Pisces – a big deal in the astrological world. Its ingress into Aries is likely to result in some major life changes for you, especially in relation to how you interact with groups, friends and society at large.

Over the next few years, you may begin to feel the need to give something back and consider getting involved in a human rights group or charitable cause. Whatever path you choose, it is likely that you will find yourself wanting to associate with people who share your highest moral values. However, membership will need to be on your terms, since you will be feeling less of a need to conform or uphold social conventions and be more confident about expressing yourself in a unique and unapologetic way. How exciting!

On the 30th, Saturn stations in your home and family sector, and discussions or plans relating to lifestyle, such as where you or a family member want to live permanently, can now begin to translate into actions and decisions. The Full Moon in Sagittarius on the 27th ushers in a big announcement with regards to a business partnership or close relationship.

CANCER ~ June 22nd to July 22nd

May is likely to be eventful socially for Cancerians, with lots of dialogue flying backwards and forwards and plans being made that involve friends, technology and/or matters involving groups or social causes. Entertaining at home and romantic interludes are also likely, especially after the 20th when Venus enters your sign. A dramatic announcement from a significant other or business partner on the 3rd could rock your world, but not in a bad way, so be open to new directions and attitudes, or else face the possibility of a stand-off around the 24th when Venus opposes Pluto.

Whilst discussion with friends and groups early on in the month is likely to focus on the past, after the 12th, when Mercury changes direction, you switch your attention to making future plans, especially around the New Moon on the 14th when new opportunities present themselves.  The 4th could bring with it challenging situations that involve money or your current skillset – look back to early last month because there may be a connection.

Two eventful days include the 18th and 19th when several aspects involving the Sun, Venus and Mercury with outer planets could mean that publishing, law or education-oriented projects, or travel plans involving friends or business partnerships could go awry or need revision. Although you may feel disappointment with the way certain individuals react, try not to jump to conclusions - the situation will evolve rapidly and you will need to wait until all becomes clear before making any major decisions.  A flash of insight or a surprise development on the 20th could provide you with some answers, but it won’t be until the Full Moon on the 27th that matters can finally be resolved. Part of the solution could involve an office move or changes to your daily schedule. Alternatively a health issue could force your hand now, prompting you or others to make some improvements. Towards month-end, several major planets change sign or direction which could signify the need for adjustments involving shared income and the family or home in the coming months.

LEO ~ July 23rd to August 23rd

For Leos, the social whirl that began mid-April is likely to continue for most of May, thanks to the presence of first Venus and then the Sun in your friendship sector. Group gatherings are likely to prove energising around the 7th, especially if they involve stimulating discussions or the chance to learn something new.

Flagging career plans come to life after the 12th when Mercury resumes forward motion, a trend that is boosted further by the New Moon in Taurus on the 14th. A Sun-Jupiter sextile on the 18th, together with a Mercury-Pluto trine on the 19th are also likely to aid those Leos attempting to drum up new business or unearth job prospects during May. However, be sure to ask lots of questions of a potential business partner or investor, particularly between the 19th and 24th or else face the possibility of deception or disappointment further down the line. The 18th and 19th prove to be highly eventful on several fronts as a result of a series of contacts involving the Sun, Mercury and Venus with outer planets. Highs and lows could follow each other in quick succession around now, making life a little stressful.

Overall my advice would be not to mix business and pleasure at this time. The fate of a female friend could weigh heavily on your mind during the first half of the month, with events reaching a crisis point around the 24th, after which matters are likely to resolve themselves. A Full Moon in your love, children and creativity sector on the 27th could bring good news, whilst the entry of Uranus into Aries signals the beginning of a whole new chapter on the travel, religion, publishing, legal or educational front. The month closes with the stationing of Saturn in Virgo, and the stationing of Neptune in Aquarius respectively. Relationships could get a little murky and undefined now, some possibly even completely dissolving. However, this period should also coincide with an increase in your sense of self-esteem, as well improved circumstances relating to shared finances and joint ventures, both of which should give you something to smile about.

VIRGO ~ August 24th to September 22nd

This May, Virgo’s could find themselves faced with more life-altering decisions, thanks to a Mercury-Pluto trine on the 3rd that urges you to rethink upcoming overseas trips or plans to expand your horizons. It could be that current economic circumstances or legal restrictions are forcing you to consider retraining or possibly even relocating in order to progress within your career, help educate your children or open your own business. Such thoughts will not be new and the same obstacles that plagued your strategies last month will once again rear their ugly heads around the 4th and the 18th. Fortunately, your ruler Mercury is set to change direction on the 12th which should provide some mental clarity and enable progress. Combined with a New Moon in Taurus on the 14th and a second Mercury-Pluto trine on the 19th, you could find circumstances swinging in your favour by month’s end. However, try not to make any irreversible decisions before the 24th because the ingress of Uranus into Aquarius after seven years in your partnership sector could result in some unexpected developments relating to joint finances.  Of course, the changes could be for the better, but with two oppositions involving Pluto and Saturn on the 23rd and 24th, it is probably better to err on the side of caution.

The return of Saturn to forward motion on the 30th should bring an end to any depressive or negative feelings you may have experienced when it re-entered your sign early last month. A Full Moon in your domestic and real estate sector could see you closing a property deal, whilst a family drama could reach crisis point.  The last two years have not been a picnic and you’ll be glad to know that after May, you can put this particular episode well and truly behind you.

LIBRA ~ September 23rd to October 22nd

During the first half of May, Librans are likely to have shared finances on their mind. Around the 5th, an unresolved complication relating to loans, inheritance, taxes, shared wealth or properties that arose early last month could return to haunt you. Fortunately, a New Moon in Taurus on the 14th provides you with an opportunity to make a fresh start in this sphere, so try to make the most of it by wrapping up loose ends in the preceding weeks. If you’re in need of an overhaul in your personal finances, help is at hand,  thanks to a Mercury-Pluto trine across your domestic, property and shared resources sectors on the 1st. However, with Mercury retrograde until the 12th, you’re better off trying to resolve past issues first – trying to push ahead too quickly with new money plans is likely to result in misunderstandings, paperwork hiccups and contractual delays.

Those Librans who acquired new jobs, clients, bosses or colleagues around the middle of last month could find themselves having second thoughts around the 17th. It may be that your new shiny job now appears to offer less scope than you originally thought, or that communicating with a foreign client in a different time zone starts to become a scheduling nightmare. Whatever the issue, try not to make any hasty decisions until after the 25th – a chain of events around the 18th and 19th are likely to change your circumstances and/or perspective before then.

Around the 21st, your focus switches to home and family matters, where a Venus-Pluto opposition on the 24th calls for some major changes.  Single Librans could find love around the Full Moon on the 27th, whilst those in long-term relationships can look forward to a shake-up or levelling out within close romantic or business partnerships as Uranus enters Aries on the 28th for a stay of just over seven years. The stationing of Saturn at month’s end, together with the retrograding of Neptune may call for a reality check concerning children, hobbies, relaxation and sports - it seems you may need to rearrange your priorities or face the possibility of some harsh realities in the months to come.

SCORPIO ~ October 23rd to November 22nd

Relationship themes continue to absorb you during the first half of May, with important make-or-break discussions likely around the 1st and the 4th. These are likely to revolve around work-life balance, and how to juggle family vs. career priorities. With Mercury still retrograde, you’re like to make more progress revisiting past issues than making plans for the future before the 12th. However, come the New Moon on the 14th, you’ll be ready to start a new chapter in your closest one-to-one partnerships. With Venus still touring your finances and shared resources sector until the 20th, it’s possible that you could also begin talks about a financial settlement, property deal or joint venture, especially on the 7th. If so, the deal is to be signed off by the Full Moon on the 27th.

Expect a few push-me-pull-you moments around the 18th and 19th as the Sun and Venus appear to be at cross-purposes with each other. Sudden decisions to set up shop or house with a new love interest or get romantically involved with a work colleague are likely to meet with disapproval from friends, leading to criticism or even a spell in social Siberia around the 23rd as a result of the Jupiter-Saturn opposition. Things are sure to improve once Saturn stations around the 30th and obstacles start to dissolve. The 24th brings a different dilemma – it seems that you may have to choose between local and foreign commitments of some kind or strive to integrate some specific knowledge into the bigger picture more.

The ingress of Uranus into Aries on the 28th signals the start of a new 7 year cycle at work during which shake-ups, shocks and surprises are all possible. The month ends with the stationing of Neptune in your home and family sector, a move that is likely to make you less tolerant of family drama and  more motivated than ever to enjoy some time alone.  Phew! Quite a month!

SAGITTARIUS ~ November 23rd to December 22nd

During the first half of May, Sag’s will still be enjoying the influence of Venus in their relationship sector, resulting in plenty of social outings and harmonious relations with loved ones. A good time to get away for a quick romantic or family break is the 7th, whilst the 3rd calls for changes related to earned income, values and personal resources. However, storm clouds may begin to gather during the second half of the month as work changes and financial commitments threaten to upset the status quo.  It seems that a possible promotion or new job could be in the offing around the time of the New Moon on the 14th. Whilst good news, these developments could force you to choose between home and work commitments around the 18th and 19th, something that is likely to displease loved ones, who vocalise their concerns around the 23rd. Fortunately, authority figures appear to be quite understanding, perhaps offering you the option of home-working or flexible working hours as a compromise near to the Full Moon on the 27th. Any further obstacles to progress in your career are likely to begin dissolving after the 30th when Saturn changes direction. Loved ones still in need of persuasion concerning your work-life balance could be talked round after the 31st when Neptune changes direction in the sector governing close relatives and self expression. At this time, however, you may experience delays and false starts in writing and teaching projects, so it is probably best not to count your chickens before they hatch.

Single archers can look forward to the ingress of Uranus in their new relationships and fun sector from the 28th – during the next seven years, you could well meet your soulmate, or even decide to have children due to the influence of this dynamic planet. It is also possible that innovations in technology during this period could provide you with the missing piece of the puzzle in relation to a pet project or creative invention.

CAPRICORN ~ December 22nd to January 19th

During the first half of May, the Sun and Mercury continue to tour your love and pleasure sector, meaning social invitations and romantic opportunities remain abundant. It’s possible that you could also take a short holiday between now and the 20th. A Mercury-Pluto trine on the 3rd and 19th, together with the New Moon on the 14th suggest that changes involving lovers or children may be afoot. If a new beau or lady has been a little hard to pin down of late, then things should improve after the 12th when Mercury goes direct. Before that, don’t be surprised if an old flame re-enters from stage left and tries to rekindle the spark…Things continue to go well at work and in health matters until the 20th, after which the ingress of Venus into Cancer could result in romantic situations getting a tad more serious over the next four weeks. The 18th and 19th are likely to be eventful but also somewhat confusing, thanks to a series of contradictory aspects involving Venus and the Sun. Activities involving males or authority figures are likely to proceed well, especially those involving education, travel or writing. However, relations with women may prove more testing now, with female colleagues, therapists, and officials likely to block any attempt at foreign travel or expansion on your part – a situation that could come to a head around the Full Moon on the 27th. The 23rd brings with it a difficult choice - it seems that before you can spread your wings, you may be required to sort out a few details closer to home.

Fortunately, your ruler, Saturn, ends its retrograde period on the 30th, which should make things flow more easily on a personal level. Relationships could reach make-or-break point on the 24th as Venus opposes Pluto in your sign, whilst the ingress of Uranus into Aries on the 28th signals the start of a whole new cycle in family, real estate and domestic affairs. Money issues need to be revisited after the 31st when Neptune stations in Aquarius – it may be time to introduce some checks and balances now to avoid money slipping through your fingers.

AQUARIUS ~ January 20th to February 19th

Family matters continue to occupy your thoughts during the first half of May, with important financial decisions concerning your home or lifestyle likely around the 3rd and 19th. Fortunately, the New Moon on the 14th injects some fresh energy into the situation. Before then, expect talks to go round in circles and tensions arise between partners and relations.  Despite this, the presence of Venus in your love, holidays and pleasure sector until the 20th mean that it is not all work and no play.
A great night for romance is the 7th which stands to benefit both single and committed Aquarians. However, around the 18th and 19th, you could get mixed signals regarding a lover or child-related matter that could end up costing you a bit financially, so don’t go booking anything expensive without double-checking with people. Act after the 21st and you’re more likely to feel confidence about your options.

The 20th brings good news involving a house sale, commission or work situation which is likely to buoy you up. The opposite is true of the 23rd when you may face a difficult financial choice. A colleague or boss could land you in hot water or divulge a company secret around the 24th whilst the Full Moon on the 27th is likely to bring a friendship or favourite cause into the spotlight. On the 28th, your ruler, Uranus, changes signs, signalling the start of a new seven-year cycle in terms of siblings, your involvement with the local community, as well as your ability to write, learn or teach.

At month’s end, the stationing of Neptune in your sign could signal the need for time off to do some personal reassessment, especially in those areas of your life where you have been experiencing disappointment – if things here have not been working out, it may be a sign that you need to make some changes.

PISCES ~ February 20th to March 20th

As May opens, your mind is firmly focused on personal involvements that involve your local community or writing or teaching projects, both of which are likely to suffer from delays or setbacks until after the 12th when Mercury’s retrograde period comes to an end. Still, important choices need to be made around the 3rd and 11th that could mean choosing between your commitments to global causes and social initiatives that are closer to home.

The New Moon in Taurus on the 14th should help you to clarify matters by providing opportunities for fresh input or insight. The 4th could see you struggling to get your point across at work or in a health matter, whilst the 17th,18th and 19th is likely to see female family members testing your patience. Fortunately, you should have moral support from male siblings or father figures, especially after the 21st when the Sun enters Gemini.

Love, holidays and children should all become a source of joy after the 20th when Venus enters Cancer. A Sun-Uranus sextile on the same day could see love blossom through a chance encounter. Single Pisceans could well find someone special between now and mid-June. However, you and a business partner or spouse could fail to see eye-to-eye on the 23rd. If a stand-off develops, wait until after the 30th when Saturn stations before trying to resolve the matter.

A Full Moon in your career and fame sector on the 27th could mean big things are in store for you now. The 28th ushers in the beginning of a period of change and upheaval in terms of personal resources – over the next seven years, your main source of income could change drastically as your realign your need for security with your most treasured values. At month’s end, your ruler, Neptune turns retrograde, signalling the start of a more introverted period for you – perfect for a spiritual retreat or time away to do a little soul-searching.

ARIES ~ March 21st to April 20th

Last month ended with the spotlight on jobs, finances and personal resources. This theme is likely to continue, with a New Moon in Taurus on the 14th ushering in loads of new work opportunities as well as chances to increase your earning potential. In practical terms, this could mean a new job or client, or the opportunity to diversify into a whole new revenue stream for your business. However, where possible, try not to sign anything until after the 12th when Mercury ends its retrograde period and there is less chance of misunderstandings in relation to sales agreements and contracts.

Your ruler, Mars, is pretty quiet during May, only making one major contact with Venus on the 7th. The positive energy generated at this time makes it a good day for creative problem-solving, as well as efforts directed at promoting cultural and healing activities and pursuits linked to leadership. If you work for a theatre or dance company, you could get some good write-ups or positive publicity now. The 18th and 19th are two eventful, but rather challenging days as the Sun and Venus appear to work at cross-purposes to each other. Expect to find males more helpful than females at this time, particularly in matters related to work, health and pets. However, the opposite is likely to be true of writing, teaching or community-based projects where a stubborn male figure could prove to be something of a challenge, especially when it comes to being paid or given credit for work that you’ve done.

The Full Moon in Sagittarius on the 27th is sure to bring news or developments related to travel, spirituality, publishing or higher education, with plans for expansion possibly falling into place around this time. The ingress of Uranus, planet of shock and awe, into your sign on the 28th for a stay of just over seven years is likely to result in some major changes for you in terms of your personal appearance, goals or public persona in the years to come. Enjoy.
