WHAT IS EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUES - EFT?
by Charlotte Nightingale

It is an emotional form of acupuncture without needles; instead the fingertips are used to tap the end-points of 14 meridians on the body to stimulate them while the patient is tuned into the problem.

In Chinese traditional medicine, negative emotions manifest themselves as imbalances or blockages in the body's energy flow.  This can result in emotional, behavioural and physical problems.  Acupuncture and acupressure re-balance the energy flow. Using just two finger tips, one simply taps away problems, where other methods have failed.

Most of our emotional and physical problems are caused (or contributed to) by our unresolved specific events, the vast majority of which can easily be handled with EFT. These unresolved events causes a disruption in the body's energy system, resulting in emotional, behavioural and physical problems. EFT addresses the negative emotions underlying problems such as phobias, obesity, compulsions, nervousness, depression, addiction, anxiety, panic attacks, and many more.

There are over 360 acupressure points on the body, these were discovered by an American psychologist Roger Callahan in the seventies.  A decade later an engineering graduate, Ordained Minister, and a personal development coach, Gary Craig discovered that he could achieve the same result using just 11 points.  At present there are over 5,000 practitioners world wide using EFT.

EFT is a self-help tool, which patients can be taught very easily to practice on themselves, either in individual sessions or small groups.  The nature of the problem does not always matter.  The patient does not even have to believe in the procedure and there is no side effect or emotional pain. At times conventional psychotherapy or counselling can be emotionally draining, when painful memories are brought to the fore.  This does not happen with EFT, it is very gentle, simple and highly effective.  Most patients start laughing in the middle of a session; this is a very powerful shift.
